As a PhD student, I get to work in a lab with other graduate and post graduate students. The up side of this is that you have people to collaborate on projects with, you're motivated by the action of others in the lab (imagine seeing other students working so hard daily, of course I'll want to work hard too), you have people to reach out to when you need help and you make friends with lab mates and attend social events together (maybe). I never knew there was a downside until recently.
